Old Montréal: European vibes in Canada
I loved everything about Old Montreal, which is a small part of the city of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. It’s seriously the cutest city I’ve been to in all of North America. I’m not going to sit here and give a history lesson, but just know that the primary language in Quebec is French! It really makes you feel like you’re in Europe when everyone is speaking mostly French and even the signs on the street are in French.
So we actually ended up coming here during Formula 1…and we honestly had no idea, which would explain the inflated hotel prices in the area. I don’t know anything about Formula 1 so I had no idea what a big deal it was and just thought the checkered flags everywhere was a Gen-Z decorative vibe. * shrug *
We also took a stroll to downtown Montreal and proceeded to eat the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life and I’m just not the same person anymore after this experience. We went to Dunn’s (est. 1927!) which has a couple of locations around the city but is very much an OG smoked meats joint. If you’re unfamiliar with smoked meat, it’s basically a Montreal classic and is a food they are known for. Think of Kat’s Deli in NYC but instead of pastrami being the OG sandwich, it’s smoked brisket. And let me tell you… let me just tell ya’ll. It changed my life. It was so good we ate it twice. And if I don’t find a smoked brisket joint that’s as good as this in Toronto, I’m gonna lose my shit.
